Who are we?
Cycle Rotherham is a local community interest and action group working to promote all types of cycling in Rotherham.
The group was formed early in 2013, made up of a diverse group of individuals who all have an interest in cycling in the local area. Please see the Group Members page to find out more. The group meets bi monthly, discussing issues and working on projects that meet the groups overarching aim and key objectives.
What are we about?
We recognise that cycling is not just a sport, and appreciate cycling in all its forms; recreational cycling, commuter cycling, competition cycling and everyday cycling.
Whether you have been a cyclist for years, have just recently started cycling or are interested in trying cycling for the first time but don’t know where to start, we hope that Cycle Rotherham can help you find what you need to get on two wheels more often.
Aims of Cycle Rotherham
To promote cycling in the Rotherham area and to make Rotherham a safer place in which to cycle
Key objectives:
1. Raising the profile of the importance of cycling for health and the environment.
2. Campaigning for the improvement of existing routes and infrastructures and the provision of new routes and opportunities to develop cycling.
3. Educating and informing Rotherham residents about the benefits of cycling.
4. Supporting existing cycling programmes
to develop.
Aiming to achieve our objectives by:
· Providing a forum to represent and be a ‘voice’ for the views and concerns of all cyclists in the borough.
· Create links and networks with other cycling groups and seek representation at
a strategic level
· Create a CycleRotherham website offering cycling information relevant to
the people of Rotherham
· Work with Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council and all relevant local authorities to create cycle friendly Pleasure route maps to allow cyclist’s an opportunity to see the Borough and its environment by cycle.
· Applying for funds to create opportunities to develop our objectives.
We are still in the early stages of setting up and making Cycle Rotherham what we want it to be. If you have an interest in cycling and would like to be involved, we are an open group who would love to hear from you.
