British Cycling’s national network of free Breeze bike rides has become the biggest programme ever to get women cycling for fun. It was set up with £1m from the National Lottery, via Sport England’s Active Women programme.

Key to its success are the 1,000 ride leaders, known as champions , who voluntarily give up their time to provide rides all over the country.

Research revealed that women were put off cycling for various reasons such as fear of traffic, not wanting to ride alone, negative body image and transportation. As a result Breeze rides are open to all abilities, with no pressure to perform and often use off road routes.

Rotherham is blessed with devoted Breeze ride leader Chris Orange, who has been organising regular women only rides in Rotherham for the past few years.  The strong social aspect of the rides is endorsed by the members of Breeze Rotherham –over 15 riders regularly enjoying local routes along the Trans Pennine trail-to Cusworth Hall, Wentworth Castle, the Chesterfield canal, Clumber Park, Meadowhall and Sheffield!

Cosy café stops are compulsory and much laughter accompanies the rides. The routes are varied, with different starting points, and different distances so you will be guaranteed to find a ride to suit your needs.

Breeze
Getting out on a bike is of benefit to both physical and mental wellbeing. It gets women out in the fresh air, meeting up with other women and making new friends. The group is growing in confidence whilst having fun!
Rides are also offered for women and children for those whom it is impossible to get out without child care.

All rides are posted on the breeze website www.breezebikerides.com or contact chris.orange@sky.com with any questions,
concerns or if you are interested in trying a ride
